Attributes over 20

I regard playing a character with an attribute over 20 as a special challenge, especially for mental attributes, 20 represents a level of attainment that you the player probably have never encountered. These are world class performers and it is unlikely we know more than one person who performs at this level. If we do know anyone who performs at this level we probably do not know how their mind works well enough to model it at the table.

In order to help you play a character who's abilities outstrip your own I will occasionally be rolling for "accidental successes" this will be done thusly:
  1. You must have a relevant attribute over 20
  2. Humans and near humans only,
    • supernatural stats are right out
      • If you have some supernatural stats, your other stats do not follow this rule
    • Robotic stats need not apply
    • Creatures of magic, animals, monsters and demons are generally excluded
  3. You must be doing something relevant to the attribute that is over 20
  4. You can't be doing something else that would interfere
  5. You can't be describing your actions in such a way as to preclude extra things from happening ie "I'm moving very carefully"
  6. Usually there must be something possible to happen--I will be tweaking this some as we try this
  7. I'll roll a stat check at -20 behind the screen if successful I will either:
    • Announce that your character has suceeded at something, what, and how
    • Let your chacter cover for some other character's failure
    • Tell you about your success and ask you what happenned

Example successes include:
  • IQ - Realizing and NPC's motive or plan in your next 15 minute break
  • ME - Your psychic powers temporarily overcharge doing more than they should be able to without ill effect
  • MA - Causing a positive opinion in an NPC
  • PP - Saving a falling teammate without risk or (additional) roll
  • PE - recover a full day's worth of HP and SDC in your next 15 minute break
  • PS - you accidentally punch through into a hollow panel
  • PB - The character is mistaken for a celebrity(without making any attempt at such a pretense), perhaps asked for an autograph
  • Spd - within the realm of possibility, the character is wherever it would be most convenient to the players for them to be right now
